Additional Complaint Information

Some complainants allege salespersons made verbal representations regarding delivery dates, or refund eligibility of deposits and down payments which were not included in contract provisions. Other customers complain that sales reps fail to keep appointments for installations, or the company fails to provide technical support for programming or installation. Some clients allege they order outdoor signs, but receive indoor signs instead. Most complainants report poor customer service, and difficulty contacting the company. The company responds by explaining that they are manufacturers only, and are not responsible for representations made by independent contractors or leasing companies concerning contract terms and conditions. In other cases the company reinterates the terms of the no-refund policy as per terms of contract. Unless the buyer is unable to get an approval from the city or county for displaying the sign, deposits are generally non-refundable as the signs are customized for the buyer. Refunds were issued in some cases.

Industry Tips
This company manufactures electrical display signs which are sold or leased nationwide by independent contractors and leasing companies. Since signs are customized during manufacturing for the specific business placing the order, the company has a strict no refund no return policy.

Carefully evaluate all offers before signing any agreement. Read and and understand all provisions of the contract. Obtain written confirmation of any verbal promises which are not included. On a business to business transaction of this nature, you do not automatically have three days to rescind your contract or change your mind. However, laws may vary from state to state. Keep in mind, signs are custom made for individual businesses. Once production commences, changes cannot easily be implemented without either the buyer or the seller taking a loss on production costs.

In purchasing a sign for your business, you will probably need a permit. Many communities are concerned with the visual environment of their city, and surveys have shown that many people believe that signs have contributed to "visual pollution." The reaction for many cities has been to enact restrictive sign ordinances to control the size and type of signs, and sign placement, allowed in their business districts. Such restrictions are usually enacted without the city being fully informed of the effects of severe sign restrictions upon the local businesses and the harshest of these restrictions may actually have the unintended effect of harming small businesses. Zoning laws and other regulations vary from city to city and from state to state. Many cities now allow you to download the city sign ordinance off of the Internet, or you can inquire and obtain a copy at the building department in your city.
