Additional Complaint Information

Complainants generally allege that company representatives use false advertising, and deceptive sales practices to pressure them to purchase questionable, costly additional services. Customers complain the company uses bait and switch advertising to entice customers to call for services based on the advertised $44.95 price, but find that final costs are far in excess of the original advertised amount. Some complainants report that technicians advise customers that additional services are necessary due to safety and health concerns, such as asbestos, mold, or bacteria contaminations. One complainant reportd she was advised that she would have to pay $1500 for asbestos removal, however further testing by an independent company revealed that there was no asbestos in her home. The company responded to a few complaints by explaining their refund policies, or by indicating that recommendations made regarding safety or health hazards are optional for customers. The company generally did not address the issues of high pressure scare tactics, misrepresentation, false advertising, or bait and switch practices.

Industry Tips
The BBB advises consumers to check credentials carefully when selecting a duct cleaning service. Everyday throughout the United States, unethical duct cleaning contractors prey on unsuspecting homeowners by using bait and switch advertising. They advertise cheap prices-with no intention whatsoever of actually delivering on this offer. Instead, they use it just to get in the door, where they will resort to using scare tactics to pressure homeowners into agreeing to high priced services that in some cases are unnecessary. Some of the scare tactics used might include dire warnings of health or safety risks, or threats of exposure to city or county authorities for failure to remove toxins. In some cases, “technicians” may actually be commission based “salesmen” without the proper training or certifications to actually understand the cleaning process they are selling.
