Additional Complaint Information

Complainants allege the actual cost of the move exceeded the original estimates due to excessive packing materials, incorrect quotes, and the hours estimated were not accurate. Many customers complained the company quoted between 6-8 hours to complete services; however, it took longer or the move time was far less than the hours quoted and customers were still charged. Some complainants allege the company used company packing materials without authorization, which increased the total cost of their move. A few customers allege damaged or missing items, and broken down trucks. In other cases, complainants allege movers are incompetent, ill or tired. The company responded to a few complaints by providing partial refunds of the moving costs or stating they never guarantee time or prices via phone. The company responded some of the complaints by apologizing for what the customer may have felt were unprofessional conduct or service.

Industry Tips
We suggest that consumers insist on a written binding estimate in advance of the move. With a binding estimate, the actual moving costs may not exceed the estimate. Be certain that the estimate is very specific concerning the goods to be shipped. It is advisable to purchase additional valuation for lost or damaged goods since the statuatory liability is only .60 cents per pound. If you obtain a non-binding estimate and you are moving between states (interstate) and the final invoice exceeds the estimated amount, customers are required to pay only 10% over the original estimate when the goods are delivered, with a balance due in 30 days. You can file a complaint or verify licensing by writing to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration located at 400 Virginia Avenue, SW, Washington, DC 20024, or calling (888) 368-7238.
